“The one thing I realized after spending time with the Police is that what they think is a reflection of how our society thinks. If society thinks that domestic violence is a ‘gharelu’ matter, then the Police will too. During the making of ‘Daughters of Mother India’ I was able to see a human side to the Police.”

We all have the power to change our collective perceptions. We all have roles to play. As the mother of two sons, I will teach them to respect women and not pass on to them the misplaced notions of masculinity that plague many of our country’s men. These are the small changes that will cumulatively add up to a change in perception over a generation or two. Men need to be part of the movement as well. We often feel helpless about our sexist, violent realities, but the truth is that we all have the potential to be agents of change.
