Chief State Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) along with 300 senior most police personals and topnotch corporates came together for the screening of a special documentary ‘Daughters of Mother India’ by Vibha Bakshi and hosted by #VogueEmpower.
"The one thing I realized after spending time with the Police is that what they think is a reflection of how our society thinks. If society thinks that domestic violence is a 'gharelu' matter, then the Police will too. During the making of 'Daughters of Mother India' I was able to see a human side to the Police."
Film maker Vibha Bakshi talks about India after Nirbhaya and the changes she witnessed first hand in spirit and law while filming 'Daughters of Mother India'.

Touching tale with the cinematography as impactful as the plot
The film describing various aspects of sexual offences on women in the backdrop of disturbing Nirbhaya case in Delhi and the consequent changes made in Indian law, stirred up many viewers.
Vibha Bakshi’s thought provoking film should be made into 2 minute capsules and exhibited in theaters to create awareness
Daughters Of Mother India is refreshingly basic in its telling, being just a recounting. As in classic journalistic practice, Bakshi lets statistical data further her case.
The tsunami that did sweep the nation has been captured by filmmaker Vibha Bakshi in her film Daughters of Mother India. A film that gets lawmakers, law enforcers, social workers and community groups to speak out. It’s naïve to expect immediate change (even as the outrage was spilling onto the streets, other equally heinous rapes took place elsewhere in the country), but it is the duty of the people who have the means and power to communicate to see to it that the conspiracy of silence ends forever.

New Delhi : Notwithstanding the outcry and ban imposed on screening of British filmmaker Leslee Udwin’s film, ‘India’s Daughter,’ another film on the same theme of Delhi gang rape and with an almost identical title has been adjudged the “best film on social issues” in the 62nd national film awards announced early this week, and there have been no protests.
Daughters of Mother India, a little-known film based on the December 2012 Delhi gang rape, was on Tuesday picked the "best film on social issues" at the 62nd National Film Awards, weeks after British filmmaker Leslee Udwin's India's Daughter was banned in the country.
As Vibha Bakshi receives the 62nd National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues today for her documentary, Daughters of Mother India, Anju Maskeri catches up with the filmmaker who hopes to make the viewers think about how India can be made a safer place
The film focuses on Gudiya, 5, who was raped and assaulted. A camera went into her house eight months after the rape, after she had undergone seven reconstructive surgeries. Her mother didn't speak much. When she did, she said, 'I want those monsters hanged'
“Vibha presents the reality as it is, in a way that will surely leave a fragment of thought in your mind about how are we raising our girls and what values are we giving to our sons when it comes to respecting women”
The evening saw a special screening of Bakshi’s documentary “Daughters of Mother India” which was adjudged best film in the social issues category and won a National Film Award on March 26, 2015. The screening elicited introspection on the role that all stake holders could play and lead by example.
We all have the power to change our collective perceptions. We all have roles to play. As the mother of two sons, I will teach them to respect women and not pass on to them the misplaced notions of masculinity that plague many of our country’s men. These are the small changes that will cumulatively add up to a change in perception over a generation or two. Men need to be part of the movement as well. We often feel helpless about our sexist, violent realities, but the truth is that we all have the potential to be agents of change.

Where Is The ‘Mother’ In ‘India’? Asks Vibha Bakshi’s National Award Winning Documentary
So why was Bakshi's film okay and Udwin's clearly wasn't? In a word, sensationalism. That's the accusation from the government, the media, and from Bakshi herself when it comes to India's Daughter. Udwin's inclusion of an interview with one of the rapists is what reportedly pushed the film out of acceptable territory. Instead, Bakshi chose to "sensitize" audiences towards the issue of rape in India, focusing on police and judicial reform.

The brutal Delhi rape of 23-year old physiotherapy intern Nirbhaya by six men on a moving bus is an incident that will remain in our memory for a long time. We often wonder what happened post the incident, what are the officials doing, has there been any change, is it even possible to make or expect any change? Building on this concern and the outrage she felt, Vibha Bakshi, a filmmaker, decided to peep into Delhi, the city where the Nirbhaya incident occurred and translate it into a hard hitting documentary, ‘Daughters of Mother India'.
